Today was:
Livid housewives blue and crimson
Jade tortoises’ fireflies
Holofernes’s beard
and unfleshed teeth
In a sickle mouth.
Yesterday was
Sun Peaches drooping towards the chin
Klimt’s Judith’s breasts
Walking ferociously
Through a hallway of glory
Momentous success
And a phone call
From California.
It’s 51 degrees in Portland
What does this mean?
It means
The women are ovulating
The sky is flaky grey brittle blue
The sun is sort of distant
The air is sharpening
like the maples
losing their leaves already
The ocean is blown glass
The light reflects from it
Like a distant silver bell cracking
Seagulls occasionally exchange a cry
As if it was 51 degrees in Portland.

What’s a river if it isn’t
the end of your reflection.
A boundary a vector a bed
a few meters thicker there
lines quick fished from sleep
blink in the light
